AND, UH, I KNOW THAT'S A, A BIG TIME COMMITMENT FOR THIS GROUP AND, UH, THAT IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. UM, I AM BIASED AS THE TOWN'S PLANNER, BUT I THINK THERE'S PROBABLY, UH, NO GREATER OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY THAN TO, UH, PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT THAT'S FOCUSED ON THE LONG RANGE VISION FOR THE TOWN. SO, UH, WE AS STAFF AND OUR CONSULTANT TEAM VERY MUCH LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU OVER THE NEXT 14 MONTHS TO START THAT PROCESS. UM, SO I UNDERSTAND THERE'S KIND OF A BIG EVENT TONIGHT. UH, SO WE'LL, YEAH. YEAH, I, I, I HEAR THE STARS HAVE A BIG GAME TODAY, SO WE WILL BE RESPECTFUL OF THAT AND BE RESPECTFUL OF YOUR TIME. UH, GIVEN THAT THIS IS KICKING OFF THE WORK OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, UH, SOME OF THIS INTRODUCTORY INFORMATION, UH, WILL BE REVIEWED FOR SOME OF YOU WHO WENT TO OUR, SOME OF OUR KICKOFF EVENTS. AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON REVIEWING THAT INFORMATION. BUT REALLY, THE PURPOSE OF THIS MEETING IS TO SET THE FOUNDATION FOR THE WORK OF THIS COMMITTEE. AND KEY TO THAT IS BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMMITTEE, UH, AMONGST THE COMMITTEE AND WITH STAFF AND THE CONSULTANT TEAM. SO BRIEFLY FOR THIS PROCESS, ADVANCED ADDISON 2050 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN. REALLY, THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR, UH, US AS A TOWN, AS A COMMUNITY, UH, NOT JUST THIS COMMITTEE, BUT OUR RESIDENTS AND OUR BUSINESS COMMUNITY, UH, TO REALLY TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD ON THE SUCCESSES OF THE PAST, IDENTIFY AND ADDRESS CURRENT AND FUTURE CHALLENGES, AND USE THIS PLAN AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD AN EVEN BETTER ADDISON IN THE FUTURE. UH, THE 2050 SPEAKS TO IT BEING A, A LONG RANGE PLAN, BUT, UH, IT'S NOT JUST LOOKING OUT 30 YEARS AND THINKING OUT THAT FAR. THERE'S LOTS OF NEAR AND MIDTERM ACTIONS THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO IDENTIFY IN THIS PLAN FOR IT TO REALLY BE A WORKING, FUNCTIONAL ACTION PLAN FOR THE TOWN. UH, WITH THIS COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING PROCESS, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE USE IT NOT JUST TO THINK ABOUT HOW THINGS HAVE BEEN DONE IN THE PAST OR WHAT ARE THE EXISTING CONDITIONS, BUT IT'S ONE OF THE FEW OPPORTUNITIES AS A COMMUNITY THAT WE GET TO REALLY BE ASPIRATIONAL, THINK ABOUT BIG IDEAS. THEY'RE NOT ALWAYS GOING TO BE IDEAS THAT WORK, BUT WE NEED TO GIVE THE COMMUNITY THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROPOSE AND PRESENT BIG IDEAS AND IDENTIFY WAYS WE CAN POSSIBLY IMPLEMENT THOSE AS WE PLAN FOR THE FUTURE. ALSO, WITH THIS PROJECT, UH, OBVIOUSLY THE, THE BIG TAKEAWAY WILL BE DEVELOPING A VISION FOR THE FUTURE. WHEN YOU HAVE THAT VISION, SOMETHING THAT IS THE RESULT OF COMMUNITY CONSENSUS AND A SHARED VISION, THIS PROJECT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO DEVELOP STRATEGIES AND POLICIES TO EXECUTE THAT VISION. SO THAT WILL ADDRESS KEY TOP AREAS, MOST PROMINENTLY, LAND USE REDEVELOPMENT. WE KNOW THAT THAT IS A BIG CHALLENGE IN ADDISON, UH, BUT ALSO OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS TRANSPORTATION, PARKS AND RECREATION PLANNING, UM, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, ALL KEY ASPECTS OF WHAT WE KNOW IS TO BE A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, SOMETHING THAT ADDRESSES THE BROAD FUTURE OF THE COMMUNITY. THE, THE BIG THING WE DO NEED TO ACCOUNT FOR IN THAT PROCESS IS THE TOWN HAS DONE A LOT OF GOOD PLANNING WORK, UH, PARTICULARLY, UM, UH, IN MOST RECENT YEARS, PLANS THAT WE'RE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF IMPLEMENTING. SO WE DO NEED TO RESPECT THOSE PLANS. WE NEED TO LOOK AT 'EM THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND UNDERSTAND WHERE WE ARE WITH IMPLEMENTATION AND WHAT, IF ANY, REFINEMENTS WE NEED TO MAKE. BUT THAT WILL BE PART OF THIS PROCESS. SO, OVER THE COURSE OF THIS MEETING AND YOUR FIRST FEW MEETINGS, WE'RE GONNA BE SPENDING A LOT OF TIME PRESENTING DATA TO YOU, TALKING ABOUT EXISTING CONDITIONS, EXISTING PLANNING POLICIES, AND BEGINNING TO DISCUSS THE BIG IDEAS THAT THE COMMUNITY AND THIS COMMITTEE HAS. UM, MY TOP ISSUE IS, UM, LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY MORE PEDESTRIAN, MEANING I'VE ALWAYS ENJOYED ADDISON'S WALKABILITY. THE CIRCLE IS WHAT BROUGHT ME HERE. AND EVEN OVER BY LES LAX IN THE ATHLETIC CENTER. THERE'S, THERE'S A TRAIL NETWORK THAT CAN TAKE YOU DOWN TO, UH, PET TRIVIAN PARK, AND YOU CAN COME BACK OVER THE BRIDGE. ALL THOSE ISSUES RELATED TO HOW THE, YOU CAN MOVE ABOUT INSIDE, UM, ADDISON OR WHAT INTERESTS ME, UH, IF YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT A CAR, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. UM, I THINK THAT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT IDEA TO GIVE YOU YOU GUYS PERSPECTIVE OF, AND MAYBE NOT QUITE YET, MAYBE A MONTH OR MAYBE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER INTO IT. SO WHEN YOU SEE DIFFERENT NEIGHBORHOODS, YOU CAN START TO SAY, OH, OKAY, THAT'S THAT KIND OF PLACE TYPE, OR THAT'S THAT KIND OF PLACE TYPE. UM, SO WE'LL, WE CAN, WE CAN TALK ABOUT THAT, BUT I, THAT SCENE, YOUR WHOLE COMMUNITY WILL GIVE YOU PERSPECTIVE WHEN YOU HEAR SOMEBODY THAT'S, AND, AND, AND ONE SIDE BENEFIT OF THAT IS THAT YOU DEVELOP A CONGENIALITY AMONG THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE GROUP. UM, I THINK THE PRO THE, THE PROCESS HAS TO BE MANAGED WELL FOR THAT TO WORK. BUT I HOPE EVERYBODY IN THE ROOM WILL FEEL, UM, COMFORTABLE GIVING THEIR OPINIONS BECAUSE I CERTAINLY WANT TO HEAR THEM.
